Our Board Members

BibhusirBibhu Thakur

Educated in St. George’s School, Rome and St. Mary’s International School, Tokyo (1964~1974) and graduated from Tri–Chandra Multiple Campus, Kathmandu in Physics and Mathematics, Bibhu had been in the Travel and tours business for 26 years, until one day he decided to join hands with his family, friends and staff to help establish Mission Himalaya. Now being an active member and the Director of Mission Himalaya, from a tour operator he has dedicated most of his time into being a social entrepreneur.

Charu Thakur 
Educated in St. Mary’s High School, Kathmandu, Charu completed her Senior Cambridge in 1980 from the same institute. She attended the Tri–Chandra Multiple Campus, Kathmandu for Intermediate in Science with Biology as major and Bachelor in Sociology and Psychology. Obtained her Bachelor in Education (B. Ed) with Major in School Administration and completed her Masters in Sociology from Tribhuwan University.Charu started her career as a teacher in 1984 from Kinder Hearts School, joined I.J Pioneer School as one of the Pioneer teachers in 1985 and continued to work as a teacher till 1989. While working as an Administration and Marketing Director for Himalayan Holidays Group, Charu along with her husband Bibhu and daughter Karishma, formed the concept for the Eco home for Orphaned kids. This dream project soon became a reality after forming their very own not-for-profit organization Mission Himalaya. Before become a social entrepreneur, Charu had been actively involved in many social and charity based organizations, like the Mother’s Club- a non-governmental-non-profit organization. Before starting her own project under Mission Himalaya, Charu was actively supporting the New Youth Development Society orphanage. Charu loves to read, write, teach, travel, go trekking, hiking, river rafting, jungle safari, enjoys cooking, has ‘green thumb’ and loves nature.

A graduate student on Management,with a seven years experience in Finance, Administration and Human Resource at Himalayan Holidays – Nepal and three years of experience in Logistics at Harsco Infrastructure -Abu Dhabi, UAE. President of ANSWER – Nepal (501c(3) tax deductible non-profit organization provides educational sponsorship for impoverished students in Nepal. Kalyan has been a key member in building the foundation of Mission Himalaya.


basantaBasanta Raj Gautam
Board Member

Basanta Raj Gautam is a graduate in Management from Tribhuvan University, Nepal and is pursuing a Master’s Degree from the same University. Though the study of Management is basically connected to human organizational activities, Basanta believes in the pleasures and excitement of Adventure Travel and Tourism – learning, living and experiencing different cultures, traditions, languages, etiquette and history.Working as a senior Executive Manager, Basanta had escorted and guided numerous Adventure Treks, Cultural trips and Leisure Holiday tour in different parts of Nepal, Tibet, Bhutan and India. In present days his focus is more in medical outreach and research expeditions coordinating with different National & International Organizations. Basanta successfully completed the training on Risk & Crisis Managements, First Aid, and Modern Destination Management etc. and has traveled to India, Bhutan, China and Russia for different sales missions and seminars. Having a firsthand knowledge about clients and organizational needs, he is playing a key role in our Group of Organizations.
